On South Second Street, each Final Friday of the month a magical double-header delights Bay residents and visitors. The night market (see above) coincides with the opening of a new art show at Smith & Lens Gallery right next door. All of it's family-friendly! Think bikes and hula-hoops and children dancing to live music and adults shopping and visiting in our balmy fall air. This is why we live here and everybody else wants to.
7/30 - Saturday
In February 2016, hundreds of Bay-Waveland residents and business people turned out to welcome a special Amtrak passenger train, filled with officials and VIPs considering the possibility of reinstituting passenger rail service on the Mississippi coast.
All systems were "GO!" but already existing lines are facing federal de-funding. Organizers say this rally will show support of Amtrak and the Mississippi Gulf Coast line.
8/5 - Saturday
Members of participating community teams will take shifts walking or jogging around the vast Community Hall in this marathon relay event that raises money for the American Cancer Society. Teams will also sell snacks, drinks and register folks for door prizes.
Jumps outside for kids make this a great family-friendly event for both participants and spectators! Participants end the day with an awe-inspiring luminary lighting to honor loved ones. Read about last year's event here.
New this year: a Womanless Beauty Contest with a People's Choice and Judges' selection.
Teams are usually formed with around 10-15 people from businesses, clubs, families, friends, hospitals, churches, schools, and other organizations. Contact event chair Ashely Mayley to enter your team!
If you don't perform, you'll have a grand time watching. Great food, good beer and a family-friendly environment in the coolest city on the coast. Did we mention there's no admission charge?
