BSL Council Update -
I wanted to take a moment to thank all the citizens in Bay St. Louis for re-electing me back into office for another term.
Over the last three and a half years I have worked tirelessly for all the citizens in this beautiful city and have accomplished many goals. The next four years in the City will be very exciting, we have secured funds to:
- Renovate the Depot grounds and the Depot building
- Build a new public safety complex
- Build a new boat launch in Ward-6 (on the site known as the Cave)
- Make many road improvements
- Make drainage improvements throughout the city
- Complete Pier-5 which adds many boat slips to the harbor
- Expand parking in the garage on Court Street
There are more projects in the works as well.
Yes, the next four years will be exciting, but we must be cautious and control growth in the city. We must update the comprehensive plan, look at zoning, and develop a long-range plan for the city that addresses youth activities, tourism, and economic development.
When I ran for office four years ago, I stated that we had large inventory of commercial (empty) rental spaces, but I also stated that with the residential building boom, new and emerging businesses would reveal themselves to meet the needs of a growing population. Today when if you drive down Highway 90, vacant commercial spaces are scarce.
Again, these are exciting times for our city. I look forward to moving forward and working for all!
Last, I want to welcome the new incoming Ward 4 Council member elect, Kyle Lewis, and congratulate Doug Seal (Ward 1), Jeffrey Reed (Ward 3), Buddy Zimmerman (Ward 5) and Josh DeSalvo (Ward 6) for either running unopposed or winning their primary races. Councilman Gene Hoffman will square off against Wendy McDonald in the General Election in June.
