Thorny Oyster
104 N. Beach Blvd., BSL | (228) 688-0401
Hours: Tu-Sat 5-10; Wed 5-9; Sun 10-2

Thorny Oyster is a popular dining destination located in the heart of Old Town Bay St. Louis. The Pearl, the boutique host hotel for Thorny Oyster, is known for its elegant aesthetic and coastal charm, but the restaurant has truly captivated the attention of both locals and visitors.

Executive chef Jeffery Hansell’s dedication to food and his restaurant is evident throughout Thorny Oyster. Growing up on the Gulf Coast, Hansell always wanted to bring something back to his community, and his commitment is reflected in the creative menu and overall dining experience.

Picture

Thorny Oyster’s menu draws inspiration from sources like the low-country style of North Carolina and Louisiana along with Spanish and French influences. The seafood-heavy menu features options from clams and mussels to lobster and crab, making it a must-visit for seafood enthusiasts.

When asked about fan favorites, Chef Hansell recommended the lobster roll and bouillabaisse. The lobster roll is a popular choice for lunch, while the bouillabaisse, a seafood stew that includes fish, shrimp, mussels, and clams, is a rich and slightly spicy dish that is perfect for dinner. It’s one of Chef Hansell’s favorites as well.

Picture

Thorny Oyster’s guests will immediately notice the open kitchen, where patrons can watch their meals being prepared. What’s more impressive is that Chef Hansell designed the kitchen himself, while his wife and business partner, Amy Hansell, designed the restaurant’s fabulous dining room and bar.

One of the exceptional aspects of Thorny Oyster is its relaxed and upbeat atmosphere. Despite its impressive culinary offerings, the restaurant does not have a formal dress code. Chef Hansell’s goal was to create a welcoming environment that would appeal to everyone, whether celebrating a special occasion or just getting off the boat.

Visit Thorny Oyster this Second Saturday and help celebrate their Hot Spot status by enjoying live music while savoring Chef Hansell’s diverse seafood-heavy menu offerings in a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. From a casual lunch to a special dinner, Thorny Oyster has something for everyone.

Located on Beach Boulevard at the foot of Main Street, you will find the lively Dan B. Murphy’s Restaurant & Bar, locally known as Dan B’s.

Picture

This popular eatery and watering hole originally opened in 1981 but was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. After purchasing Dan B’s from his grandparents in 2005, current owner Daniel Murphy rebuilt and resurrected the family restaurant in 2017.

Picture

Much different from the original structure, Dan B’s consists of three levels. You can find expansive, family-friendly dining rooms on the second and third floors that also feature a beautiful view of the harbor and bay. The third floor is often used for private events, where you can order delicious food from Dan B’s menu. The second floor is used as their dining room during kitchen hours, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Picture

On the first floor, you will find an open layout that hosts the main bar and stage area. The open-air environment of the first level presents a welcoming atmosphere with live music and an expansive bar that allows passers-by a sneak peek into the party.

Picture

Dan B’s offers a variety of weekly specials and live music. Thursdays 5-9 pm is steak night, which feaures a 12-14oz. ribeye steak served with a baked potato and green beans for just $18.95. Dan B’s also hosts live music on Friday and Saturday nights from 7-11 pm and Sundays from 2-6 pm.
