Located on Main Street in the heart of Old Town Bay St. Louis, Gallery 220 is a vibrant artists’ cooperative that showcases the work of over 30 local artists. Housed in a historic art deco building adorned with a colorful Coca-Cola mural, the gallery offers an eclectic mix of paintings, sculptures, pottery, mosaics, textiles, and jewelry—there’s truly something here for every art lover.

This Second Saturday, September 14, Gallery 220 is hosting “Paws-itively Purr-fect,” a special fundraising event for Friends of the Hancock County Animal Shelter (FHCAS). From 4 to 6 pm, the gallery will hold a silent auction featuring animal-themed creations by their talented gallery artists, and proceeds will benefit the shelter. In addition, there will be a fun pet costume contest 5-5:45 pm, and the winner will be announced at 6. Registration is just $5. A local photographer will be on hand to capture photos of participants and their pets.

Clay Creations, founded by artist Jenise McCardell, shares the space at Gallery 220 and is a beloved part of the art community. McCardell has been crafting small ceramic sculptures of Gulf Coast homes, schools, and businesses since 1980, capturing memories through her handmade pieces. Each Clay Creation is sculpted from white clay, hand-painted, and fired twice, resulting in over 1,000 unique designs. Both the Clay Creations studio and gallery are located within the 220 Main Street building, offering visitors a chance to explore the history and craftsmanship of these iconic works.

While supporting local art and animals, consider bringing a donation for the animal shelter. The wish list includes Purina dog and cat food, Purina puppy and kitten chow, clumping cat litter, puppy pads, paper towels, bleach, liquid laundry detergent, and Fabuloso.
