One Golf Cart Permit Good for Waveland and BSL
Attention golf cart drivers! Reciprocity is now in place for all low-speed vehicle permits in Waveland and Bay St. Louis. You will only need ONE permit, issued from the jurisdiction in which you live, that will allow you to operate your vehicle in both Waveland and Bay St. Louis. Please remember that you must follow the city ordinances in which you are driving. Neither city permits golf carts on any street with a speed limit exceeding 25 mph – this includes Old Spanish Trail, Nicholson Avenue, Central Avenue, and Waveland Avenue. Remember to renew your permit by October 1 at the Waveland Police Department. Join a Neighborhood Watch Waveland is proud to have a very active and informed Neighborhood Watch program. While primarily made up of businesses, residents are encouraged to join as well! Groups like Ward 1 often host get-togethers to keep neighbors actively engaged and informed. The gatherings are a wonderful way to get to know each other and stay up to date. If you do not already have a block captain on your street, please contact me and we will get one started in your neighborhood. Employee Spotlight
Julie Burt is the deputy city clerk and accounting assistant. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Social Work. In 1988, she married Mississippian Joey Burt. After her husband graduated from Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, they opened a veterinary practice in Ohio. There, they raised two children and often took family trips to visit family in Mississippi. Both children attended Mississippi State University. In 2009, Julie and Joey made the decision to sell their veterinary practice and relocate to Mississippi. Both began working at MSU’s Animal Health Center, where Julie’s duties included supervising the hospital front office staff and acting as the referral coordinator. In April of this year, the couple transitioned to their forever home here in Waveland. This truly has been a dream come true for them. Shortly after Katrina, Julie and her husband visited Waveland despite the devastation. While standing at Sears Avenue and Beach Boulevard, Julie told her husband, “I know I am in the middle of all this destruction and people have died here, but for the first time in my life, I feel like I am home.” Julie continues to share her love of Waveland and the Mississippi Gulf Coast with her two grandchildren. She greatly enjoys her new role in city government and looks forward to meeting more of Waveland’s citizens. Please stop by and see her if you are at City Hall.
