This month, Waveland Alderman Jeremy Burke provides details on a new construction project, and welcomes everyone back to Food Truck Fridays!

Nicholson Avenue project
 
In the next few weeks, work will get started on a project that will overlay Nicholson and install pedestrian pathways on both sides of Nicholson Avenue from Highway 90 to Jeff Davis Avenue. The total cost of the construction is $800,000, with Waveland contributing under $200,000 of local funds. The majority of the funding will come from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
 
The project addresses two problems for Waveland. First, it will repave the crumbling and highly trafficked Nicholson Avenue. Second, it will get most of the foot and bike traffic off of one of the main thoroughfares in Waveland. It is disappointing that the project ends at Jeff Davis Avenue due to issues with railroad crossing rights-of-way. However, plans are in the works to extend this pedestrian pathway at least to the railroad tracks in a future project.

Waveland Food Truck Friday
 
Waveland had to take a break for the last few months from hosting Waveland Food Truck Friday for obvious reasons. But I have good news, the food trucks are coming back! Waveland Food Truck Friday is scheduled to re-start on Friday, June 12 from 5-8 pm on Coleman Avenue.

​Coleman Avenue in front of Studio Waveland will be closed to vehicles to accommodate the food trucks and their customers. The City of Waveland will take a number of safety measures in order to allow for social distancing and to provide a safe environment for Waveland Food Truck Friday attendees. 

 
Waveland Food Truck Friday is open to the public, and admission is free. Food can be purchased from the food trucks. The Waveland Civic Association will have a table set up selling beer, soft drinks and water. Waveland Food Truck Friday will have musical entertainment, thanks to the generous sponsorship from the Silver Slipper Casino.
