Over the past 28 years, the monthly art walk has become one of the most popular events in the region. Old Town stays lively all day, with many merchants and restaurants offering specials. 

​The pace picks up from 4–7 pm, when gallery openings and live music keep the streets humming with activity. ​

August's Second Saturday Hot Spots are Magnolia Antiques, 200 Main Street, and Daiquiri Shak, 106 Court Street.

Jack and Glenda Schornick, owners of Magnolia Antiques, purchase goods for the shop while on their country-wide travels. With the everyday operations now passed down to their daughter, Shay Coss, the interesting purchases continue to delight shoppers. Shay notes that buying from sources both near and far helps to keep the shop’s inventory as varied as the owner’s taste.
 

 
The exciting aspect of shopping with Magnolia Antiques is the rarity of a piece. If you see something you like, don’t pass it up! The likelihood you’ll find it tomorrow is rare. If you are hunting for a particular piece and don’t see it today, the same applies in reverse: It might be there tomorrow! The coming and going of goods is intriguing, and you just never know what you may come across inside this antique shop.
 
While the past year has presented its share of difficulties for Magnolia Antiques, they stayed strong and pulled through together. The owners are eternally grateful to their loyal customers for helping them to keep their doors open.

They may not be new in town, but Daiquiri Shak’s new location has excited locals and tourists alike. After several delays, Owners Rhonda Bridges and her husband, Gus, opened the doors to their much-anticipated new location on Court Street a year ago. Now, after another delay due to COVID-19, the local daiquiri bar is hosting their Hancock County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting during Second Saturday at 4 pm.
 

Daiquiri Shak’s new location is a comfortable fit for folks who like to kick back with a cold drink in their hand. Enjoy the outdoor seating while listening to live music and sipping one of the evening’s specials. You can catch Rhonda, Gus or their daughter, Carrie, throughout the week while relaxing with your favorite beachside drink. The drinks may be great, but the down-home feel is what bring guests back for more.

Following the Hancock Chamber of Commerce’s ribbon cutting at 4 pm, Daiquiri Shak will celebrate their anniversary with specials, cake and a prize wheel. Not only will the Bridges family be celebrating the one-year anniversary of Daiquiri Shak’s new location, but this family-owned business is also celebrating five years in Old Town! The Dave Mayley Band will be playing live outdoors beginning at 5 pm. Catch a breeze, sip a daiquiri and enjoy this local band!
