Over the past 28 years, the monthly art walk has become one of the most popular events in the region. Old Town stays lively all day, with many merchants and restaurants offering specials.

The pace picks up from 4–7 pm, when gallery openings and live music keep the streets humming with activity.

December's Second Saturday Hot Spots are Bay Books, 131 Main Street , and Antique Maison, 111 North Second Street.

In the heart of Old Town Bay St. Louis half a block up from the beach, you will find the quintessential small-town book store, Bay Books.

In 2011, Jeremy Burke and his wife purchased the store with a vision to continue providing their community with a local, independent book store. Burke recalls, “When we found out it was for sale, we knew we had to buy it. We didn’t want our community or county without an independent bookstore.”

Bay Books presents a real sense of community and personalization that you won’t find at large chain or online booksellers. Burke loves that his shop is “an asset to the community.” He maintains a close relationship with local schools and makes sure to carry the books that area students need.

Burke strives to make Bay Books unique, with an expansive children’s section and a good selection of local independent and self-published authors. With a variety of Christmas books and toys and a large selection of new and used books, holiday shoppers are sure to find the perfect gift. If you can’t find the title you are looking for, Burke is happy to order anything you might want. After all, it’s Burke’s customer service and dedication that make Bay Books a beloved part of the Old Town community.

This Second Saturday, Bay Books will be hosting a book signing from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, live music from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, and a $10 gift card with any purchase over $100!

Antique Maison

Since its opening in 2007, Antique Maison has become one of the largest antique shops in Hancock County and an important part of the Old Town community. With a spacious retail space and more than 30 vendors, the variety of collectibles and curiosities makes Antique Maison a go-to for antique shoppers and visitors alike.

Ed and Sylvia Young opened Antique Maison after renovating the building, which was severely damaged during Hurricane Katrina. The couple developed a mall and rented booths to vendors who had lost their own antique shops to Katrina. By providing their customers a plethora of merchandise from a multitude of dealers, it didn’t take long for Antique Maison to become a success.

Wise shoppers set aside extra time when visiting, to allow enough time to peruse Antique Maison’s labyrinth of booths. Owner Sylvia Young stated that there is “something for everyone” at her shop, and the friendly folks at Antique Maison are extremely knowledgeable and always ready to assist you in finding that special something, whether shopping for something small or large, for yourself or as a thoughtful gift.

Stop by the one and only Antique Maison this Second Saturday, December 11, to take advantage of a variety of specials for holiday shoppers. Select vendor booths will be offering discounts on their products for savvy shoppers looking for wonderful finds at special prices. Authentic Jamaican reggae band Myal Soul will offer lively entertainment from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
