Jane Evans Designs
112 S. 2nd Street (inside Century Hall, 1st floor) | (504) 858-8574

Picture

Located on the first floor of the historic Century Hall (112 S. 2nd St.) you will find Jane Evans Designs. The shop is filled with golden works of art, decorative ceramic animal shells, original Bay St. Louis gear, and more.

Owner and artist, Jane Evans, stated that she’s been creating art her whole life, but it was in 2012 that she began making her popular ceramic crosses that turned her love for art into a business. As the daughter of an accomplished architect, Jane attributes her knowledge of the significance and power of strong design elements and diligent artisanship to her father.

Picture

A Baton Rouge native, Jane started by selling her crosses to local shops. As her business continued to grow, she decided to open a store of her own. While searching for a retail location to set up shop, Jane and her husband, Walter, fell in love with Old Town Bay St. Louis. In 2019 Jane Evans Designs opened its doors in the heart of Old Town, inside The Shops of Century Hall.

Jane currently sells her collections to 18 stores across the county. The artist’s stunning silver- and gold-leaf handcrafted ornaments range from designs of LSU’s Tiger Stadium to Bay St. Louis’s Bay Bridge, from crowns to crosses, from bunnies to portraits of Frida Kahlo. Jane Evan Designs’ collection also features a variety of unique, ceramic turtle and crab shells. Many of the pieces are decorated with sheets of gold-leaf and gold-leaf paint, while others are glazed. The shop also has lines of specialized Bay St. Louis gear such as a variety of shirts, water bottles, and signs designed by Jane.

In celebration of their Hot Spot status on July 9, Jane Evans Designs will be featuring live music by Bradley Bones and serving refreshments from 4 to 7 pm. Out on the porch of The Shops of Century Hall, a table of beautiful butterfly ornaments created by Jane will be available for purchase by shoppers and Frida Festers alike. For the past few years Jane Evans Designs has dedicated its Hot Spot feature to benefit Old Town Bay St. Louis’s local community garden, Ruth’s Roots (located right around the corner on Court Street). “Ruth roots just touched my heart when I saw it for the first time,” said Jane. Jane Evans Designs will be accepting donations for the garden as well as donating all of the proceeds from the butterfly ornaments to Ruth’s Roots.
