Second Saturday Art Walk - March 2022

3/10/2022

Saturday, March 12, 2022
A few times a year, the iconic Second Saturday Art Walk event in Old Town Bay St. Louis adopts a theme. The SOUPer Mudfest Second Saturday Art walk – one of the most popular events of the year in Bay St. Louis – will take place March 12, rain or shine.

Over the past 29 years, the monthly Art Walk has become one of the most popular events in the region. Old Town stays lively all day, with many merchants and restaurants offering specials.

The pace picks up from 4 – 7 pm, when gallery openings and live music keep the streets humming with activity.

Bowls for March 12th's SOUPer Mudfest Second Saturday Art Walk will be sold in the Methodist Church courtyard at the Corner of Main and Cue Streets beginning at 3:30 pm. A wristband will be given to all who purchase the official bowls.

Bowls have been handcrafted by more than a dozen local potters and sell for $20 each.  Bowl buyers are provided with a list of local merchants where they can sample gourmet soups throughout the evening - for free!  Just show your wristband and hold out your bowl.

This month, three Hot Spot businesses will be featured: the Alice Moseley Folk Art & Antique Museum, 1928 Depot Way; Bodega Adventure Rentals, 111 Court St.; and Beachside at Buoys, 115 South Beach Boulevard. Read more about them below!

Located on the second floor of the historic L & N Train Depot, you will find the beloved Alice Moseley Folk Art & Antique Museum. This museum is dedicated to the iconic Mississippi folk artist and humorist Alice Moseley.

With over 80 works by Alice Moseley, the museum also houses large collections of vintage bottles, Majolica vases, depression glass, and antique everyday objects. Alice Moseley wanted the museum to be open to all people regardless of income or social status, so admission is free.

Beyond the museum’s dedication to increasing public awareness of the art and life of folk artist Alice Moseley, it is also dedicated to promoting tourism and the arts and doing charitable good works in the state of Mississippi. On March 24-27, the museum will be hosting “The Wall That Heals” exhibit at the Bay St. Louis Sports Complex. This extraordinary exhibit includes a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., along with a mobile education center. The traveling exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, and it bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. The exhibit will be open to the public 24 hours a day, closing Sunday at 2 pm, and admission is free.

The Alice Moseley Folk Art & Antique Museum will sponsor the Mississippi Heroes Celebration on Saturday, April 23. The Celebration will start at 8 am with a Superhero 5K and Fun Run honoring both professional and non-professional heroes, with a special tribute to Lt. Michael Boutte and Cayce Seal.

The Mississippi Heroes Celebration festival will begin at 10 am at Commagere Park and will include live music throughout the day, the annual Michael Boutte / Cayce Seal Scholarship crawfish fundraiser, exhibitors, vendors, a kids’ area, and local artwork raffle. A highlight will be the presentations of the first Cayce Seal Community Caregiver and Lt. Michael Boutte Community Service Awards, and the Michael Boutte and Cayce Seal Education Scholarships.

Beachside at Buoys
115 S. Beach Blvd. Bay St. Louis | (228) 344-3114

Picture

Opening in the Fall of 2021, Beachside at Buoys is one of the newest additions to the Old Town dining community. Located on South Beach Boulevard, Beachside at Buoys features a gorgeous view of the bay along with made-to-order, hand-crafted burgers, hand-cut fries, wings, wraps and more.

Picture

After his graduation from Florida Culinary Institute, Beachside at Buoy’s Chef Joe spent many years in fine-dining restaurants in South Florida. He decided to hang up his chef hat for the time being and move to the Bay to help his parents manage and run the Bay Marina on Washington Street. Although Chef Joe enjoyed the family business, he had a vision of opening his own restaurant near the water where he established the menu. Thus, Beachside at Buoy’s was born.

In the short amount of time that Beachside at Buoys has been open they have made quite an impression. This “scratch kitchen” has recently been nominated for the Best Places to Eat 2022 in the categories of Best Sandwiches and Best Burgers in Gulf Coast Woman magazine.

Picture

Beachside at Buoys has some exciting plans in the coming months, including expanding their menu, lengthening their hours of operation, creating a burger challenge, and possibly special events during the week such as local live music acts to theme nights. Co-owner Michelle Beauregard said, “We are expanding our menu to get ready for the warmer months. One of our owners spent a whole year on the New Jersey Shore, and she has been working to bring some boardwalk items to our menu.” Between Memorial Day (May 30) and Labor Day (September 5), Beachside at Buoys will be open seven days a week.

Picture

In partnership with Buoys Bar, Beachside at Buoys hosts local events like the Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse’s monthly membership meetings, birthday parties, receptions, etc. If you’re looking for something a little more exclusive, Chef Joe is available as a private chef, as well as setting up family meals for those visiting on the weekend.

You’ll want to be sure to visit Beachside at Buoys this Second Saturday as they will be hosting a variety of events, including a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Hancock County Animal Shelter and live music performed by the Jay B. Elston Band from 5 to 7 pm.
