During the Second Saturday Art Walk each month in Old Town Bay St. Louis, you'll find cool deals, fresh meals and lots of art and live music all day, but the action heats up between 4 pm and 7 pm.

Over the past 29 years, the monthly art walk has become one of the most popular events in the region. Old Town stays lively all day, with many merchants and restaurants offering specials. 

​The pace picks up from 4–7 pm, when gallery openings and live music keep the streets humming with activity. ​

Built in 1903, the building that houses the restaurant is one of the oldest on the Hancock County coastline. Opening in 2011, 200 North Beach Restaurant was the first restaurant to open on the Bay after Hurricane Katrina and has continued to be a favorite to-go for many over the years. This Old Town staple has a mouthwatering menu featuring fresh seafood, savory steaks, and a variety of home-style dishes along with an expansive bar specializing in delectable craft cocktails.

  
200 North Beach Restaurant features a special every day, with new lunch specials every week, Date Night on Wednesdays featuring a three-course, prix fixe meal paired with a specially selected bottle of wine, daily happy hour from 4-6 pm, game day specials at their upstairs sports lounge and oyster bar, and much more.

 
This Second Saturday, October 8th, 200 North Beach Restaurant will be featuring live music by Cade Evans from 4-7pm in celebration of their HotSpot status. ​Located on the first floor of The Shops of Century Hall (112 S. 2nd Street), visitors will find the impressive collection of Tami Curtis’s original, colorful artwork within her gallery.
 

 
Most of Tami Curtis’s art is based on the rich history, music, culture and nature of Louisiana. But the artist is perhaps best known for her paintings of iconic Southern musicians such as Freddie King, Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin and many others.
 

 
“I do it because I don’t know anything else to do, and I'm very grateful that I can make a living as an artist,” stated Tami. Upon obtaining degrees in art education and graphic design, Tami started her fine art career full-time in 2004 in the New Orleans area. In 2018, Tami and her husband, Perry Guy, moved to Bay St. Louis to set up home and her gallery.

 
Tami Curtis Gallery has a vast collection of the artist's pieces from original artwork, to Giclee prints, magnets, small and large greeting cards, matted prints, and oyster shell ornaments. But beyond her fine art, prints and products displaying the imagery, her husband is a writer and the couple create delightful children’s books as well.
 

 
In celebration of Tami Curtis Gallery's Hotspot status, Bradley Bones will be playing live music at the gallery from 4-7 pm. Be sure to swing by the gallery this Second Saturday, visit with the talented artist and check out all of her amazing artwork.

Ruth's Roots
130 Court Street, Bay St. Louis

​Known by many locals as their “happy place” is the one and only Ruth’s Roots Community Garden.
 

 
As you approach Ruth’s Roots entrance, you’ll be greeted by a very energetic and colorful fence line. Each board of the fence is unique, having been crafted and donated by various volunteers. Upon entering the community garden, you’ll immediately feel all the positive vibes this space radiates. The garden consists of a magical collection of activities and interests including lots of local artwork, interactive sculptures, a butterfly house, a fish pond with running water, a variety of free little libraries, bunnies, chickens, bees, a blessing box (food pantry), and of course, rows and rows of raised flower and vegetable beds.
 

 
In 2016, Elise Deano was the youth court judge in Hancock County and had a desire to help the young people that came through the juvenile court program. Elise’s vision was to provide an opportunity to inspire, educate and motivate the challenged kids while also giving back to the community. Her mission was extremely fruitful, with over 30 teens successful in fulfilling their service hours with Ruth’s Roots by the time Elise’s service as Hancock County judge came to an end in December 2017.
 

 
Even with the ending of the court gardening program, Ruth’s Roots has continued to flourish over the years. On almost any given day you can find people exploring all the wonders Ruth’s Roots has to offer, with families playing the outdoor musical instruments, seniors having photo shoots with the wonderful local artwork, couples enjoying a picnic under the shady oak, and children trying to sneak a peek into the bunny burrows. The garden is open 7 days a week, free of charge, and open to all.
 

 
The garden is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is 100% funded by private donations and grants. Elise noted, “The community has responded in such a resounding way, and it is apparent when you visit. People donate time, food, plants, books - you name it. It’s pure magic.”
 

 
This October Second Saturday, Ruth’s Roots Community Garden will be celebrating their Hot Spot title with live entertainment from 4 to 7 pm at the garden. Be sure to stop by and show your support of this mystical spot in Old Town Bay St. Louis to experience the magic for yourself.
