With cooler temps and the true onset of fall weather, we change tactics, look for structure and baitfish, and continue to put fish in our coolers.

These cold fronts are pushing most fish deeper into the marshes and rivers. With the cooling temperatures we now say our goodbyes to the flounder and triple tails.

We have been seeing trout push into the marshes the last week or so. Since the spillways weren't opened this year, the amount of bait we are seeing has been amazing. The shrimp, pogies, mullet and minnows are keeping our trout and reds very happy.

Just about anything and everything we are fishing these days revolves around bait and moving water. If you can find any structure, shoreline, point, drain or bay with smaller sized baitfish, it’s likely you’re gonna find trout, reds and other fish in them. The oyster beds should still hold fish for several weeks, too. The bridges and nearshore reefs have been consistent as well.

The cooler it gets, the farther back into the marsh we will go. If we get a warm fall/winter, we will stay out and fish the mouths of drains, bayous and ditches. Live shrimp under a Boat Monkey popping cork is great to locate fish. Once the bite gets rolling, change over to plastics (Matrix, Vudu, etc).

Hopefully, we have one heck of a fall bite heading our way. It has been one of the best spring and summer seasons we have had in years. This trend will continue, we hope.
