Fishermen are keeping close to home because of the weather conditions, but fortunately, the fish have been doing the same.

​This past week, our boats have been spending more time in Mississippi waters than Louisiana waters. One reason has been the windy/rough days. The other reason has been the great fishing right in our front yards. ​

A wonderful three boat four-hour charter in and around Bay St Louis.

​Almost all of our fishing has been on the man-made reefs the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources created. These fantastic fish havens have kept our customers fishing in protected waters, and bringing in some unbelievable catches. The speckled trout have been there, but we are seeing mostly throw-backs. The redfish and black drum have been on the reefs, in good numbers. Some of these drum are massive, pushing 30 pounds!

​The big surprise has been the big run of sheepshead we have been seeing. It’s not unusual to catch sheepshead on the reefs year-round. Historically, we usually see the big sheeps and big numbers from January to March. It has been a welcome surprise to see these tasty hard fighters.

We have been relying heavily on the live shrimp. Fresh dead shrimp will work, but those live shrimp are dynamite. If the reefs are in four foot of water or less, we have been using Boat Monkey popping corks, longer 3 foot leaders and small 1/0 live bait hooks. For the deeper reefs, we are using dropper loop rigs with 1/2 ounce weights and 1/0 live bait hooks.
