Every week now is SHARK WEEK!!!
I’m well aware the fishing reports haven’t changed much the last few weeks. I couldn’t be happier, either.
 
The speckled trout fishing has been fantastic, the white trout have been huge, and the triple tails have been pushing in better and better every day. Since we have avoided the spillway openings, this is how things typically are – and should be – on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Happy to report, the sharks have been very cooperative. Since the Mississippi Sound is teeming with life, it’s only natural the toothy critters are lurking around. In the last week or two, we have caught sharks at Cat Island, Isle Au Pitre, even at Taylor Reef. At all three spots, the trout fishing was so good, we caught both sharks and trout at the same time. Usually a shark will completely shut down a trout bite, but the fishing has been so good that we were able to do both at the same time!

​My tried-and-true set-up to go shark fishing is the following:
 

• Okuma Coronado 65 spinning reel(with bait feeder option)
• 80-lb. braided line
• 6-foot medium heavy rod
• 150 lb. big game swivel
• #9 wire
• 8/0 circle hook
• Connections made with haywire twists
• Cut up lady fish or live white trout

Some of these sharks are no joke. If you are not comfortable handling them, take a picture and cut the line.
