High winds may sideline boaters this week, but all types of fish are out there waiting!

We are waiting to see what Hurricane Ian does these next couple of days. Our thoughts and prayers are with anyone in the path of the storm.

From the looks of the extended forecasts, the winds will likely have us off the water most of this week. Our guides will likely be working on boats, tackle, paperwork, and hopefully getting some long overdue sleep.  However, the fishing the last couple of days has been really good. We still haven’t been hitting on any huge numbers of speckled trout, but the “other stuff” has been awesome!

​This “other stuff” has been red fish, flounder, triple tails, white trout and black drum. The big jacks and sharks have still been lurking around as well. 

​Honestly, the puppy drum have been the best thing going. We haven’t had a big run on them in a while, so these tasty little critters have been a welcome surprise. Even more fun have been the massive black drum mixed in with them. Some of these fish are well over 40 POUNDS!!! Live or fresh dead shrimp has worked best for us.

We are hoping current conditions in the Gulf don’t mess up our triple tail fishing. We are seeing fish all the way from the barrier islands to the Louisiana Marsh, along the beaches, and into Lake Borgne. Yes, the cold fronts and cooling water will send them south anyway, but it’s been the best year we’ve had in a long time. With the local bait shops having big live shrimp readily available, the triple tail fishing has been great these last couple of weeks.
 
It seems the flounder and redfish fishing is getting better and better. The big bulls have been along the beaches, mixed in with the jack crevalles. We are seeing plenty of smaller slot fish too. The super tides in the morning have been biggest issue. If the water against the shores is flooded, we focus our efforts on the nearshore reefs. ​
