BB's BBQ Reopens in the Bay
Longtime locals know that the return of a Brooks family barbecue joint means some great ‘Que lies just ahead.

They started out selling snowballs and ice cream, later expanding the menu to feature barbecue.
“It started with mom and dad,” Brian said. “It was dad’s original barbecue and mom’s signature sides.” While that restaurant closed in 2012, a new BB’s Bar-B-Que & Snak Shak opened a few years later on Highway 90 in Bay St. Louis. It operated until October 2016.
Judi and Tommy’s son, Brian Brooks, had been working in the restaurant business in New Orleans, but he wanted to come back home and open his own place. Things were underway when he was critically injured in a car accident on his way home from work. The recovery process has been long and difficult, but as soon as he was able, Brian went back to work to get his restaurant ready to open. And once again, it’s a family effort.
“I’m excited to be fulfilling my dream, continuing the family’s hard work,” he said. “The menu is fit to feed the whole family, with food that has become a staple in our community.”
The new restaurant will serve customers Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm, a little later on weekends.
The menu is a little different from the family’s previous restaurants, with the addition of fried and grilled seafood and a selection of fresh salads. The idea is to have something for the whole family, Brian said.
Customers can dine in (eventually) or drive through. Meats and sides will be sold in bulk, perfect for large gatherings. Look for ribs, pulled pork, smoked sausage, beef and chicken and, well, more.
“We’ll also have catfish, shrimp and oysters in poboys and platters, and we may venture out and do a whole flounder and speckled trout later on,” he said.
Salads were added “to mix things up a little bit, and because I like salad,” he said. Look for mixed and other greens with hearts of palm and other tasty ingredients.
“It will be good, healthy salad with homemade salad dressing,” he said. “Not from a big bottle.”
Inside will have booths and tables, and a small bar area which will serve cold beer.
Once again, Brian said, the restaurant will be a family effort.
“I’m sure the whole family will be in here before it’s all over,” he said.
