What's Up, Waveland - July 2016
Waveland Alderman Jeremy Burke keeps us up to date on the new Waveland police station, a Splash Pad project, the bulkhead on Nicholson Road, and the new Waveland Library branch manager, Angela Christoffer.
Waveland’s police station will be dedicated to Donald Dorn and John Thomas Longo. Dorn is Waveland's longest-serving police official. John Longo, Jr., was the mayor of Waveland from 1974 to 1990.
There will be a ribbon cutting for the Johnny Longo/Donald Dorn Public Safety Facility on Monday, August 29, at 11 a.m.
Waveland is about to have its very first splash pad. Ward 2 Alderman Bobby Richardson spearheaded the project to have a splash pad installed at Martin Luther King Park on Herlihy Street.
Waveland broke ground at a ceremony in June. Preliminary site work has started and the construction of the splash pad will begin in a few weeks and will be done by community volunteers.
The splash pad will be a wonderful addition for the children Waveland.
Nicholson Avenue Bulkhead
When you drive down Nicholson Avenue to Beach Boulevard you will notice the beautiful newly refurbished bulkhead. On Saturday, June 25, a group of Wavelandinians gathered in the morning for the community project of repainting the bulkhead. Artists as young as two years old were out there with paintbrushes beautifying our wonderful city.
This event was hosted by Destination Waveland. Danny Lee designed the bulkhead mural, and Lowes provided supplies for the project. Special thanks to Charles Cornelius, Tommy Bentley, Cynthia Mahner and all the other Wavelandinians who helped with this project.
