With fall weather patterns in place and baitfish plentiful, fall fishing should be consistently excellent - as long as high winds don't cause problems.

The bad news is that the cold fronts are beginning to push down every couple of days. These fronts make for windy and rough conditions. The silver lining is that the fronts will usually bring northerly winds, which are much easier to hide from, pressed up against the mainland. All the areas we are fishing – Bay St. Louis, the barrier islands, the Louisiana Marsh, and Lake Borgne, all have high salinity, plenty of bait, and cleaner water. If it holds, this combination will make for an unbelievable fall bite. We are still using a lot of live and dead shrimp when we fish structures like bridges and reefs. When we find speckled trout or white trout over the oyster beds, it is much easier to switch to the Boat Monkey popping corks, 2 feet of leader, and a shrimp soft plastic or cocahoe plastic. We should have a stellar bite on school trout and white trout for the next few weeks, until the temperatures really dip and stay cold. We are anticipating a decent flounder run in the next few weeks as well. We will be focusing on shorelines with ditches and moving water where the flounders will hopefully be staged up. The red fishing should go from good to great in the coming weeks, too. Hopefully, the bait will stick around and keep the reds against the grass and shell banks. Keep a close watch on the weather and plan your trips around the windy cold fronts. Enjoy this feature?
