Shore Thing Fishing Report

Shore Thing Fishing Report, 10/25/2023

10/25/2023

October 25, 2023
This week, the name of the game is fishing between the weather fronts and chasing the bait. These strategies together equal success!

Fishing between the fronts has been the game plan this last week or so. If the wind blows north, east, or west, we have been doing our best to hide from it when the front hits. The south wind has been a little trickier, but we are still having very good luck just about everywhere we fish.

The Bay of St. Louis has been full of shrimp, which brings in the speckled trout, redfish, sheepshead, black drum, and flounder. We are even seeing some decent white trout bites in the back bay. Some days you have to move around, but as long as you are seeing baitfish and/or shrimp, you are in the right area. Of course, if the fishing gets tough in the bay with this salty water, the bridges have been consistent for whatever bites. Most days we are seeing black drum, sheepshead, white trout, and the occasional redfish on the bridges. It’s an awesome mix.

On calmer days leading up to the front, our boats have been all over the Louisiana Marsh. I’m not kidding, some days we will have some boats fishing the Chandelier Sound side, other boats are fishing the Lake Borgne side, and still more boats fishing in between. With the salty water and the huge push of shrimp, most days all three sections have been catching on the speckled trout, redfish, and especially the bull reds.

Please don’t forget that the Louisiana flounder season closed on October 15 and will reopen at the end of November. Flounder fishing in Mississippi is still wide open.

Watch your weather and do your best to get out there a day or so before those big weather fronts. Usually it’s nice and calm, and the fish know to eat everything in sight before the bad weather hits.
