White trout, redfish and speckled trout are the sought-after species right now, and fishing the tides is a great strategy to find them.
- by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters We have seen a big push of white trout in the bay and on the nearshore reefs. The Louisiana marsh has been loaded with speckled trout; however, most of the fish we are catching are on the smaller side. The new 13-inch minimum size in Louisiana means the fish we are catching in the 12-inch range get tossed back to grow some more. No worries – the bigger ones are definitely around, and little fish get bigger every day. The redfishing has been good and should only get better with the cooling water. The ideal scenario for me is either peak high tide and fish the falling water or peak low tide and fish the rise. On high-water days, work close to the grass, watching for bait or feeding fish. On low-water days, watch for tailing fish on shallow flats. You can catch them all day on artificials, but it definitely helps to bring some live or dead shrimp or even scented baits like FishBites. Enjoy the cooler weather and stay safe out there. Enjoy this feature?Comments are closed.
