Water conditions are sending some of the fish into hiding, but there are plenty of great fishing opportunities out there - if you know where to look!
- by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters Our boats heading over to the LA Marsh have found some better water and a variety of fish. The redfishing has been our primary focus, but we are seeing a few puppy drum, some speckled trout, plenty of sheepshead and tons of big freshwater catfish! The deeper channels and holes in the marsh have been loaded with these tasty fellas. The big tide swings coming off the full moon have had the water rolling, but the catfish seem to like the moving water. They like to stay in the deepest parts of the marsh. It’s something different for us, and pretty easy: dead shrimp on the bottom, with a lot of weight to counteract the current. Water temps have risen considerably since the Christmas freeze, but the next cold snap should stack the sheepshead in close. Watch your weather, and layer up. Cold weather is coming, and we are expecting some hot bites to follow! As always, have fun and be safe. Enjoy this feature?
