I imagine the cooler weather and water temperatures are pushing the fish deeper into the interior of the marsh. We will likely begin fishing the deeper holes in the marshes on colder days and looking for fish in the shallow flats near the deeper holes during the middle of the day, when the water is at its warmest. As always, good tidal movement and watching for birds and baitfish are key.

This time of year, it seems like the windy and rougher days outnumber the calm days. The majority of our fishing this past week was tucked in close to land fishing the back bay, the bridges, and the nearshore reefs. We have even begun poking around the Pearl River area. All of it has been productive; you just have to keep moving until you find the right scenario. Some days it is deep holes, other days it is fish holding tight to structure, and still other days we are just chasing birds and jumping shrimp.

The big thing really is the weather. The fish should be there for another several weeks, so you really want to make your time count this time of year. You usually get one or two good days a week between the weather fronts. If you have a flexible schedule, make the most of it on those days and enjoy the best seasonal fishing you can.
