We've been sidelined by weather many times, but it's not often we're sidelined by more than half a foot of snow!
- by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters I am almost in my 48th year of living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and this is by far the most snow I have ever seen. We made it out a few days before the big cold front hit, and the fishing was still very good. The sheepshead were held up on deeper structures. We were able to find some live shrimp, and they did not last long once they got down onto the rubble. We were also able to run over to the Louisiana marsh, and I’m happy to report we found a good number of redfish, puppy drum, and more sheepshead there. I imagine this very cold weather will send the speckled trout deep and up the rivers. If you head out, you definitely want to dress for the occasion with many layers and quality foul-weather gear. The good thing about living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is that if you wait a little while, the weather will change. The extended forecast has 60° weather later this week. Please be safe, and we hope you enjoy the very rare snow and have fun. Enjoy this feature?
