Weather conditions continue to improve, although water salinity is a problem after all the rain, and there is more to come. But sometimes Plan B is just as good as Plan A!
- by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters So that is the bad news – but there is some good news. It looks like the extended forecast has some warmer, less windy weather headed our way. I would imagine when the weather stabilizes, the good fishing should return. Since we are mainly focusing on redfish and sheepshead at this time, they tend to be more resilient to the low salinity than the trout. Even though I am not a big fan of fishing in low salinity, it does sometimes come with a few perks. The last trip we ran on a windy, chilly day after the rains produced some of the best freshwater catfishing I have ever experienced. I would have much rather seen a pile of redfish, but in that terrible weather we were able to get a big mess of delicious freshwater catfish. I can only assume they came out of the Pearl River after the last big rain. I have no clue if they will stick around, but I definitely intend on finding out. Those things are tasty!
