The cold weather does not stop or even slow the fishing, but we have to work a little harder (and smarter) to find the fish.

Despite the cold temperatures, fishing can be really good. Our focus has either been structure or bayous with deeper holes in them. Sheepshead have still been holding well on the structures, with the bigger swings in the tide producing the best bites. For the time being, the bait shops still have live shrimp, which makes a huge difference. The red fishing has been great and should stay good if we can avoid flooding rain. When we check the deeper holes; we make four or five casts, and if there are no bites, move. It seems like you either get hit every single cast or don’t see any action at all. Stick and move. We hear reports from the guys looking for trout in the rivers that it has been hit or miss. However, on the days they find them, they enjoy some great fishing. We have not done much of that but are happy to hear that the speckled trout are holding in close. The ultra-low tides on windy days have been great for scouting. In areas we are unfamiliar with, we either idle or, even better, get on the trolling motor and look for the deeper spots and shell bottoms. Enjoy this feature?Comments are closed.
