The fishery along the western Mississippi gulf coast appears to have survived the unusually cold weather, and local fishing has rebounded with a vengeance!
 - by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters The recent warm weather and calm seas have put our boats all over the Mississippi Sound, Chandelier Sound, and Lake Borgne. These areas were all full of life. Our boats caught well with redfish, sheepshead, puppy drum, and even a good mess of speckled trout. Also, I’m happy to report there was a nice size mix of all the species. I always love to see packs of rat reds. These small redfish grow very fast and will usually remain in the same general area for the next several months or even years when they can be harvested. It’s hard not to enjoy this unseasonably warm February weather. The water temperatures have shot way up. I’m sure that, sooner or later, we will get another cold snap, but for now, we are making the most of it. The next thing to worry about would be the rains, but we will deal with that if and when it happens. For now, we are enjoying fishing in shorts and T-shirts on a great bite. Enjoy this feature?
