With a week of nice weather, the boats headed out to sea. Fishing success is often tied to water salinity and tides now.

The Lafontaines enjoying some great weather and plenty of white trout out of Pass Christian.
We were able to get out a few days this past week. The fresh water has been our biggest challenge. One thing we noticed more than anything was how much the tides affected the bites. The falling tides seemed to keep the fresh water in close, and the fish were not very active. â€‹When the tide came in, the higher it rose, the better the fishing became - meaning the saltier the water, the better the bite.

The near-shore fishing on the right side of the tides has been very good. The sheepshead seem to be getting bigger and better every few days. We still keep boats over in the Louisiana marsh on the good weather days.

We are still seeing redfish, a few sheepshead, and plenty of those tasty freshwater catfish. This is easily the most freshwater catfish we have ever seen in the many years we have been fishing down there.

All we need now is some decent weather and hope that the rivers don’t flood. We are set up for a great spring. We just need salty water and calm seas.
