Near-shore fishing is hot, and there are some gigantic fish providing memorable action. Read on for the where, when, and how!

It looks like the Pearl River level is up, which has put a little coffee-colored water to the west. Hopefully the salty water to the east will push towards Lake Borgne and bring that pretty green water this way. We have been seeing gigantic black drum regularly. No one really keeps them to eat, but they are the biggest, baddest thing you are going to catch close to shore right now. On light tackle, they give one heck of a fight. On calmer days, some of our boats jump over to the Louisiana marsh for mostly sheepshead and redfish. We had a couple of trout here and there, and I expect the fishing to get much better once the salinity jumps up. For now, we’re paying very close attention to the weather, especially the winds. On days when a big front hits, we typically stay home and work on the boats. Hopefully warmer weather will be here soon, and we can break out the T-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops. Enjoy this feature?
