Structure is the name of the game, whether it is reefs, piers, bridges, or oyster beds. This type of fishing eats rigs and lures, so be sure to bring plenty of extras!
 - by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters We had a decent run of weather the past few days prior to the big winds on Tuesday. We had boats scattered to the barrier islands, Lake Bourne, the Biloxi marsh, and around the Mississippi Sound and Bay St. Louis. The water has been cleaning up and hopefully, with minimal rain, it will stay salty. The bulk of our fishing is still focused on structure. Reefs, bridges, old piers, and oyster leases are where we spend all our time and bait shrimp. This type of fishing is very tough on the tackle. Be sure to bring plenty of hooks, leader material, swivels, and weights. Losing tackle from time to time is just part of the game, but the fish are close to the structures. On last week’s calm and pretty days, we started to see a few nice speckled trout. The good news is that we see them just about everywhere we fish – not in big numbers yet, but hopefully, it is a sign of good things to come. We are getting into the early spring weather pattern of drastic shifts in temperatures with on-again, off-again rain. Keep a very close eye on the weather, and try to schedule your fishing trips on calmer days. Enjoy this feature?
