The winds are still posing a challenge for anglers longing to head offshore, but there is a bounty in our nearshore waters that shouldn't be missed! - by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters Despite one of the windier Aprils we have had in a while, our boats are still catching good quality and quantity. We have not spent much time in the Louisiana marsh, but on the few calm days we’ve had, it sounded like the speckled trout fishing was very good. When calm winds and seas get here, I imagine the Louisiana marsh should be loaded with speckled trout. If there is one good thing to report about this never-ending south wind, it’s that it appears to have brought in large rafts of sargassum weed from offshore. We ran through several miles of it last week and saw many juvenile tripletails underneath it. Hopefully it carried in a big wave of them so we can enjoy them the rest of spring and summer. Don’t let the winds take away from your fun. Find some protected waters and maybe look for some new areas to fish. If you are fortunate enough to get a hold of live bait, put it to good use and be sure to tip those hard-working men and women at the bait shops. They are trying their best to work in these windy and rough seas to get us those precious live minnows and shrimp. Enjoy this feature?Comments are closed.
