Warm, sunny, and mostly rainless days are creating nearly perfect conditions for spring fishing - but will the party last forever?
 - by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters
For now, it’s just business as usual. On calm days when our boats can run south to the Louisiana marsh, they are doing well on speckled trout and redfish. None of our guides have seen a tripletail yet, but I would expect that to change any day. Salinity levels are steadily climbing and the water temperature is rising, creating perfect conditions for those delicious tripletail floating near any structure on the surface. Near-shore fishing has been steady, with a mixed bag of speckled trout, redfish, and black drum. The sheephead have mostly moved offshore, but we see a good many flounder in close - no huge flatties, but really surprising numbers for this time of year. This should make for some incredible fishing for the fall flounder run. For now, we are watching the spillway and the weather, trying to find calm water on windy days, and thankfully, enjoying good fishing in just about every direction. The near-shore reefs and bridges, west toward Lake Borgne, south toward the Louisiana marsh, and east toward the barrier Islands have all been consistent. Expect crowds everywhere you go; it’s a part of it this time of year. Please be courteous and respectful to others. Have fun and be safe. Enjoy this feature?
