The waters are warming, the baitfish are coming, and the big ones are not far behind. Sonny's advice: Get outside with your family and enjoy this great weather!
 - by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters The speckled trout fishing has gotten much better. This is very exciting, since we have not gotten that first big push of shrimp through our waters. If things are this good right now, it is going to be one heck of a spring when the shrimp do arrive. In the meantime, fishing shell bottom and/or reefs has been putting up some good numbers of those delicious speckled trout. When the shrimp do push through, which should be in the next week or so, we will likely see them coming up the eastern side of the Biloxi Marsh. The bull reds and slot-sized redfish have been pretty steady. We have been using the tides to help catch these. On the lower tides, we check the flights for tails or feeding fish. On the higher tides, we are pitching Boat Monkey popping corks with live or dead shrimp right to the edge of the grass. Usually if the rat breads are there, the larger size fish aren’t far behind. Sometimes you just have to work through them. A lot of our guys just tag and release the smaller fish until the big ones move through. Another thing to watch for is tripletail. We saw our first two of the year last week in open water, swimming on the surface. Neither one of them was very large, but hopefully, there is much more to come with those amazing fish. Some of our boats have already begun to see sharks around the Barrier Islands and in the Biloxi Marsh. That usually means the bait fish are starting to stack up. Judging from the extended forecast, the warmer temperatures are here to stay, and with that comes the variety and consistency of the fishing. Bring plenty of sunscreen, bug spray, and water. This is an absolutely amazing time of year to be out, so hopefully you can take your friends and family to enjoy it. And make sure to bring the kiddos! Enjoy this feature?
