Shore Thing Fishing Report

Shore Thing Fishing Report, 4/29/2026

4/29/2026

April 29, 2026
The wind may have stopped, but now we're dealing with spring rains. Once the weather turns, we should be in for some great fishing.

It looks like we have traded wind for rain. This is all a part of springtime. The most important thing is to make safety your priority in planning any fishing trip. Some of these weather fronts are no joke, and I promise you, no fish is worth endangering your life.

Capt. Josh Ellis, Carl Camp and their buddies took advantage of a good weather window and did great on speckled trout.

A lot will be happening now that temperatures are stabilizing, regardless of the wind and rain. This past week the amount of baitfish we saw was a whole new ball game compared to weeks past. I expect to see some big numbers of trout coming in consistently from here on out.

Of course, try to pick your best weather windows, and if you’re lucky, plan them around larger swings in the tide. When these trout come through, they will be everywhere. You will start seeing fish at the barrier islands, along the nearshore reefs, Lake Borgne, and of course, throughout the Louisiana marsh.

We have not seen any tripletail the past few days, due to the rough seas and minimal travel through open water. I imagine when things get calmer we should start seeing a good many. There always seems to be a huge push of them when the pogies start moving through. That should start with the warmer temperatures.

Puppy drum have been very plentiful this year. They are delicious and kids love 'em.

The flounder have made a really good showing this spring. We are seeing flounder daily. It’s not unusual to see these tasty flat fish, but this many in the spring should mean we will be loaded with them come fall.

Please just be safe, wait for the good weather windows, and please be courteous to other people. It looks like it’s going to be a wonderful spring. There are plenty of places to fish and plenty of fish to go around.
