Shore Thing Fishing Report

Shore Thing Fishing Report, 5/10/23

5/10/2023

May 10, 2023
Storms may churn up certain areas of the Sound, but our charter captains fish in ALL directions to get their customers to the fish!

Things are definitely moving in the right direction. The water to the east and south is getting salty – and fishy.

Unfortunately, the western side of the Mississippi Sound is still dirty from all the rain. Things should be clearing up to the west, but in the meantime, there’s plenty to do in other directions.

Our guides have been focusing on speckled trout down in the LA Marsh. Watching the weather and constantly moving is the key. When the fishing is slow or the bite stops, you need to move. We usually search with the live shrimp, two feet under the Boat Monkey popping corks. When the trout start hitting almost every cast, we switch over to the plastics.

If an area is fishy and the bite shuts down, we will come back and check it (if needed). Give every stop 5-10 minutes.

On windy days or days with incoming bad weather, we are still catching great close to shore. The nearshore reefs have been producing very well. It’s a great mix of speckled trout, black drum, sheepshead, flounder, and redfish.

Things are going great and should keep getting better. Live shrimp is the key.

Please be courteous to other fishermen and boaters. Give folks plenty of space and help when needed. Remember to get those kiddos out on the water – this is the time of year to really enjoy our Mississippi Gulf Coast!
