Shore Thing Fishing Report, 5/22/24

Fishing good, weather bad. That’s pretty much been theme the past several days.

The spring pattern is in full swing, but we are having to plan everything around storms and wind. Just about all of our trips have been leaving later, leaving earlier, or cut short due to winds or storms. Some springs have more storms, and this spring so far has had its fair share.

Amy May with two huge trout she caught this past week.

The good news, is that the fishing has been great. When we can get even a decent weather window, the speckled trout bite has been very good. The live bait boats have been able to keep up with the rush most days, supplying croakers and live shrimp to the masses.

This week's big rains may damper the fun to the west. The Pearl River may send us another batch of fresh water, but these high tides have been doing a great job bringing in salty water.

The few near shore trips we ran were all good. Even in stained water, the bridges, along with the nearshore reefs in Hancock and Harrison Counties have still been holding a mixed bag of speckled trout, black drum, redfish and white trout.

We only had a little time to look for triple tail, but have seen a few smaller ones swimming around the Mississippi Sound. It’s still early, and those amazing fish should start piling in here as the summer goes on.

​Saw some big sharks around Cat Island last week too. We will start picking fights with those big mean fish more and more when the kiddos get out of school.
