Speckled trout fishing has been hot in spite of less than ideal water conditions. Now, if the wind will only cooperate...

We see a great bite everywhere – the Louisiana marsh, Mississippi Sound, Lake Borgne, Bay of St. Louis, and the barrier islands are all holding good fish. The one thing that helps is high water. These fish seem to prefer the shallows or flats, so the falling side of high tide seems to be the best scenario. I finally saw my first tripletail of the year. With lower salinity and dirty water, they have been tougher to spot. Hopefully we will get a big push of them as summer approaches. We haven’t done a whole lot of redfishing with the lower tides in the morning. Our boats that stick it out or go later in the day have been doing well fishing shorelines with broken grass and shells along the banks. It’s about to be full-on summertime. There are already massive crowds everywhere we fish from Bayou Caddy to the barrier islands. Please be careful and courteous around other boaters. We all have the same right to enjoy the wonderful Mississippi Gulf Coast. Please be respectful of other people’s space and property. Enjoy the beautiful weather, have fun, and be safe.
