If the past week is any indication, we're in for a fantastic summer of fishing - if we can get out early and beat the worst of the heat.

The fish will be getting a break the next day or two, but once the wind and weather stabilize, I can only imagine we will pick up where we left off. Hopefully, the several days of predicted south and southeast winds will just pump more and more good salt water into our area.
I definitely recommend setting that alarm clock early. Temperatures are brutal starting mid to late morning. If you are unable to get out early, we have still been catching fish later in the day over structures in 8 feet of water or more. The baitfish have stacked up. We see big schools of mullet, pogies, rain minnows, and shrimp just about everywhere we fish. With this huge wave of bait come the predators. The sharks have made their presence known, and we caught some huge bull sharks this past week. The jack crevalles and bull reds have been lurking around as well. We have not seen huge numbers of tripletail here yet, but we are hoping the next several days of south winds will push in a good batch. I’m very happy to report that our offshore boat has been doing phenomenally on red snappers. As long as the forecast is halfway decent, it sounds like we are in for another fabulous year. Offering bigger bait helps us pick through the smaller fish and allows more time to bring those bigger ones to the hook. Although we are having a phenomenal year on speckled trout, we are just as excited to see big numbers and good sizes of white trout mixed in. Kept cool and eaten fresh, it is hard to beat those tasty white trout. Since the fishing has been very good just about everywhere, our go-to move for the past couple of weeks has been figuring out where most of the boats are fishing – and then going in the opposite direction. Yes, you can catch fish in the bunch, but it is more challenging and often stressful. Some of the best bites we have seen in the last few weeks have been exploring new areas, specifically where there is not a lot of boat traffic. Enjoy this feature?
