Shore Thing Fishing Report

Shore Thing Fishing Report, 6/5/24

June 5, 2024
Uncooperative spring weather has kept the fishing fleet on its toes this week - but where there's a will, there's a way to find the fish.

Mother Nature has certainly made us work for all the fish we have been catching the last few days. We haven’t had a full day yet where rain, storms, wind, or a combination of all three weren’t in the picture. It’s been an unusually active spring thusfar, weather-wise. With that said, we’ve had to work extra hard to stay on the fish. Some days this means leaving very early, some days it’s leaving late to get the best weather you can. Some days we haven’t been able to get out at all.

When we have been able to get out, the fishing has been very good. We have been seeing good size and numbers of speckled trout. Our boats have been relying heavily on live bait, not wasting any time with artificials. Luckily, the bait boats have been coming in daily with beautiful live shrimp and croakers.

It has been a similar pattern among all of our boats. We have been watching the birds to find the baitfish and the speckled trout. On good days when the water is calm, the telltale trout slicks pop up and give away the trout position. The trick is to find where the slick originated and not fish the actual slick.

We are seeing a few bull reds, and we will begin targeting those big beauties here much more in the coming weeks. We have not spent a whole lot of time looking for tripletail, either, but hopefully when we get several days of calm weather, we will be able to dial those tasty treats in as well.

Mother Nature is calling the shots, so please be careful and don’t take any chances. Bring plenty of water, too; with temperatures are already getting into the 90s, you need to stay hydrated. If the fishing is this good in these conditions, it should be out of this world when Mother Nature starts playing nice.
