Fishing has rebounded after last week's incredible storms. Get out there, but pack your patience - it's a holiday weekend!

The big rains have given us a break for now. I’ll be honest, we were a little nervous this time last week. On the first trip we ran after the rain let up, all we caught were freshwater catfish inside of Bay St. Louis. Luckily things have rebounded quickly.

Our boats had a big week on speckled trout, redfish, red snapper, and even a few tripletail. The water is still a little murky from the torrential rains, but fish have got to eat, and eat they did.
 
We have been running a little further south to find saltier water, but the speckled trout have been there. The bulk of our efforts have been focused on oyster reefs and shell bottoms in the Louisiana marsh in 4 to 8 feet of water. The big tidal swings most definitely have triggered some big bites. It also helps that the pogies and rain minnows stuck around. I’m sure the shrimp will push back in this week if we can avoid more flooding rains.

Our offshore boat has been doing very well on red snapper. With the warmer water, bigger fish have been further out on deeper structures. As usual, big baits equal big fish.
 
Be on the lookout for the tripletail. We have seen several this week and that bite should only get better.

With the Fourth of July holiday, plan for crowds. Set the alarm a little early or, better still, explore new areas to avoid traffic jams on the water.
 
We have been using a lot of Marker 54 artificial shrimp. They are well worth the price.
