While speckled trout might be more difficult to find, there's still plenty of fish to be caught! - by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters We did see a slight decrease in numbers of speckled trout, but that is a relative term. There are still plenty of fish out there. Some of our boats have seen some huge fish this past week. Capt Ray's wife landed a 26 inch speckled trout she caught on a live croaker over a deeper reef. The bull reds and Jack Crevalles have been seen daily. A few days we caught right off the beach’s in Harrison County. Other days, we are seeing big schools around the Barrier Islands terrorizing schools of mullet and pogies. The smaller bays on the eastern side of the Louisiana Marsh have had some big feeding schools also. Our snapper boat is still doing well on the red and mangrove snappers. It’s all about bait and location. For now Captain Alex is using bigger live baits (mullet, pogies, croakers) over live bottoms to get the bigger fish. The near shore reefs off Hancock and Harrison County are still holding a mixed bag of speckled trout, redfish, white trout and puppy drum. Live or fresh dead shrimp works great fished on the bottom near the structures. Enjoy this feature?Comments are closed.
