Great fall speckled trout and redfish fishing is just around the corner. Early signs point to a great fall season!

A nice hall of red snappers for a happy crew fishing out of Shaggy's charter docks in the Pass Christian Harbor.
Just this little bit of somewhat cooler weather has made a big difference in the fishing—and it’s been for the better. Yes, the temperatures are still warm, but these cooler mornings and evenings have pushed the water temperature a few degrees cooler. We have had much better luck with speckled trout and redfish the last several days, and hopefully it’s a sign of great things to come as fall approaches.

The shrimp have pushed in very well, and with that comes the speckled trout and white trout. The Louisiana marsh has been kicking out decent numbers of school trout. The slot-sized redfish seem to have popped up out of nowhere. I doubt they have just magically appeared, rather the cooler temperatures have allowed them to feed longer and more aggressively. Whatever the reason, those hard-pulling delicious redfish have made their presence known. We have been seeing good numbers of them as far as Lake Borgne, throughout the Biloxi marsh, in the back Bay, and even a few on the near-shore reefs.

The big jack crevalle and sharks have been all over Cat Island. The big mullet are rafting out there and getting terrorized by these big fish. Most days, we just look for the big flocks of diving pelicans, and they usually point the way to these hard fighters.

The tripletail should still be throughout the open waters of the Mississippi Sound. As temperatures drop, we will begin to see them less in the cooling waters. We should still have several good weeks with them, though.

SNAPPER SEASON IS BACK OPEN! Our snapper boat has been having great success on the calmer days.
