Say farewell to summer and hello to great fall fishing!
- by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters The Lake Borgne area has been very fishy. We are seeing redfish, sheepshead, puppy drum, and even a few tripletails over to the west. The nearshore reefs and the Bay of St. Louis have been very good for the same mix, also with a few flounder mixed in. Speaking of flounder, it looks like we are in for a great fall bite. As the cold fronts approach, we will most likely see flatfish fattening up before they head offshore to spawn for the winter. The Louisiana marsh had a good wave of shrimp pass through, and with that, the school trout have been feeding heavily. Drift over oysters in 3 to 5 feet of water until you find the area that is holding keeper fish. There has been a good mix of speckled and white trout that will hopefully continue for the next couple of weeks. Of course, the big schools of bull reds have been the most fun. This week, the biggest schools are throughout the Louisiana marsh. They have either been mixed with white trout or gorging on the remaining schools of pogies and are usually aggressively feeding and easier to catch from first light till about 9 AM. Please keep in mind that in Louisiana waters, any redfish at or over 27 inches must be released. Enjoy this feature?Comments are closed.
