We are (hopefully) about to see some of the best fall fishing in a while! Lots of bait fish, cooling water temps, and high salinity might just make the perfect storm.

The cooler the water temperatures get, the better the fishing seems to get. We are seeing tons of life everywhere we fish; from Lake Bourne, to the Mississippi sound, to Bay St. Louis, and the Louisiana marsh has been awesome.

One of the biggest issues we are having right now, and it’s kind of comical, is that there is almost too much bait around. I am not kidding, there are shrimp literally everywhere. Just this past weekend my wife and I were fishing right out in front of Nicholson Avenue, sight casting to Bull Reds and Jack Crevalles. There were big schools of these feeding fish from there all the way back to Buccaneer State Park, right off the beach!

The shrimp are all throughout the Louisiana marsh. Every stop I made on my last trip over there had big jumping shrimp and feeding fish around them.

The feeding fish can be big and small, speckled, trout, bull reds, or even large sail cats. I do not recall a time in the last several years where we have had this much bait in such a large area. It is truly amazing to see this much life everywhere.

The triple tail are definitely still around for now. Just about any day we cruise around in open water in the Mississippi sound, we are seeing fish. The majority of the Tripletail we are seeing are also keeper sized fish, 18 inches or bigger.

We are thoroughly enjoying the bite we are on right now, but with fingers crossed, we are anticipating a fall bite that may be one of the better ones we have seen in a very, very long time. The salinity is through the roof, the bait is everywhere, and the weather has been very nice for the most part. Things are very good at this moment, but we are expecting even better things to come.
