Shore Thing Fishing Report

Shore Thing Fishing Report, 9/4/24

9/4/2024

September 4, 2024
The weatherman won most of the battles this week. Between the wind and the rain, we only got out a handful of days, but when we did, we made them count!

Because of the unpredictable weather this week, all of our trips were near shore, fishing the reefs from Pass Christian to Bayou Caddy. A lot of our boats also fished in Bay St. Louis and near the bridges.  The weather didn't stop us, but we are mindful of the conditions for our customers' comfort and safety.

There are plenty of fish to be caught close to shore, and we had some great trips despite Mother Nature‘s efforts to put a damper on our fun. We did a lot of popping corks against the banks with live or dead shrimp for the redfish. We have also been seeing a few flounder here and there. When we are fishing the bridges and reefs, we are fishing the bottom with either Carolina rigs or dropper-loop rigs using live or dead shrimp here, too.

When the weather calmed down one late morning last week, we did find the gigantic bull reds and Jack Crevalles crashing bait near the beach, close to Long Beach Harbor. It was absolutely insane. Hopefully, these monsters will stick around a little longer.

Speaking of shrimp, the area saw a huge push of shrimp this week. It’s safe to say that’s why the fishing has been so good close to shore. Find the bait, find the fish – just keep a close eye on the weather, and don’t take any chances with these summertime squalls. Please be safe and have fun.
