Weather, and the heat are making things interesting - and tricky - this week. Neither should be dismissed.

The weather has been our biggest hurdle this past week. The pop-up storms and heat make things interesting this time of year. Weather and heat are our biggest factors in deciding what to do and where to go. The fish are still there, but the long runs and long days are getting a little trickier.

We have focused the majority of our trips in close and are having very good luck. The near shore reefs and structures are still holding good numbers of delicious puppy drum, white trout, redfish, and speckled trout. The majority of the speckled trout are under-sized, but there are some whoppers mixed in with them. There are also plenty of bull reds and gigantic sea-monster black drum lurking in there as well.

We did have some choppy days, so the tripletail fishing was put on hold for the most part. I’m pretty confident they are still out there, and the next few calm days they will get a lot of attention. We are also seeing the big schools of pogies near the beaches. With that means big bull reds and jack crevalles. Seeing those those huge explosions so close to shore is simply amazing.

On the good weather days, our snapper boat has still been doing very well. Captain Alex even brought in a massive cobia last week from south of the Chandeleur Islands.

You really have to play it safe this time of year. Keep a very close watch on the weather at all times. Bring plenty of water, sports drinks, and snacks to combat the heat. Leave early if possible, and don’t be afraid to end a trip early if the heat and the weather are not making things fun and safe.
