As the weather cools, larger fish will start to move farther offshore - but other action will start to heat up in its place.

The bulk of the school trout fishing has been down south in the Louisiana marsh. We are seeing a good many white trout mixed in with the specks, mainly under diving birds drifting oyster reefs. I’m happy to report a few of our boats have seen some tripletail in the Mississippi Sound. I’m not sure if these were pushed in by Hurricane Francine or if they are just late getting to the party. For those of you looking to tangle with the big fish, now is your chance before the cooler weather pushes them out. The big jacks, bull reds, and sharks have been destroying the schools of pogie and mullet. We have been seeing them off the beaches, around the Barrier Islands, and even in the Biloxi marsh. One day we even found them inside Bay St. Louis. Some of the sharks have been on the larger side, so don’t be afraid to bring the bigger tackle. One nice surprise has been the amount of flounder showing up. Hopefully, this is a sign of good things to come. The last several years have been a little disappointing when it comes to those delicious flatties. For now, we are just enjoying it while we can and hoping for the best with the storms.
