Sometimes it doesn't matter if the fish are stacked up. When the weather is unfavorable or unsafe, it's better to wait than to take unnecessary risks to get to the fish.
- by Sonny Schindler, Shore Thing Fishing Charters The handful of trips we were able to take were mostly targeting redfish and puppy drum. It looks like we are going to have a dynamite fall if this week is any indication of things to come. The majority of the fish we are catching against the grassy shorelines are perfect 19- to 22-inch fish. We were also lucky enough to run into a few huge schools of big bull reds terrorizing mullet and pogies. We found them at first light, and they did all of their feeding before 8:30 or 9 am. I’m not saying that they aren’t around during the middle of the day, but we never found them later on.
The weatherman is making us work to get out on the water these days. I am all but certain the fish are there, but you have to play it safe and not take any chances with these thunderstorms and tropical weather. Hopefully things will level out here toward end of the week, and we can get back to more fishing and less sitting inside. Enjoy this feature?
