7/27 - FridayLaurin Stennis, featured artist for August: influenced by both the Arts and Crafts movement and East Asian woodblock printing, Stennis's work often features Southern flora and fauna laced with subtle social commentary.
Smith & Lens Gallery is the brainchild of silversmith Sandy Maggio and photographer Ann Madden. In addition to being a showcase for their own award-winning work, each month, they feature work by one of the region's top artists.
7/27 & 7/28 - Friday &SaturdayM.A.P. stands for Music, Arts and Practicality and it's a fantastic community program where children, grades 3-12, audition to participate. Everyone who auditions is assigned a role. Participants learn the basics of live theatre while putting together real productions.
This summer's show, Shrek, the Musical, Jr. is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film. Adapted for young performers and featuring a host of over-the-top roles for an expandable cast, there's a part for everyone in this dazzling adventure story. 7/28 - Saturday

The Pearl River as we know and love it is at risk from a "One Lake" project in the central part of the state. The proposal calls for a dam to be constructed to create a 1,900 acre lake just south of Jackson. Yet, opponents and stakeholders south of the project point to the serious impacts the project would have on communities downstream - like Hancock County. Reducing downstream freshwater flows could jeopardize our water quality, our seafood industry and the ongoing coastal restoration projects.
This is the only public meeting being held in Lower Mississippi. Please attend to make your voice heard. Our Pearl deserves better.

First Fridays are always a great time at Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company—Mississippi’s oldest brewing company. Sip your samples while enjoying local live music. Try some beer pairings with locally produced chow available for purchase from this month’s featured food vendor.

If you don't perform, you'll have a grand time watching. Great food, good beer and a family-friendly environment in the coolest city on the coast. Did we mention there's no admission charge?

The event honors the Bay St. Louis, Waveland, Diamondhead and Hancock County Businesses of the Year, and meet the ten Outstanding Citizens being honored. One of them will be named Citizen of the Year during the event, it's always very exciting!
