Smith & Lens is open noon to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday or by appointment as well as for openings and other special events. The phone number is (228) 254-6006. |
Smith & Lens Gallery at 106 South Second St. is now open in the old shoe repair shop vacated recently by The Screaming Porch.
The new gallery’s name reflects the well known owners’ creative specialties. Sandy Maggio is a silversmith and Ann Madden is a photographer. Both sold their well known work at The Screaming Porch so when the building became available the two decided to create their own space. “Our first day was Second Saturday,” Madden said. “We really wanted to have a spot in Bay St. Louis where we both live and it all kind of happened overnight.” The gallery will also exhibit and sell the work of other artists. Upcoming at the end of January is a show called SURRENDER , a collaborative experiment to help bring the community together. Participating artists will bring in a piece of their art and go home with another artist's work to put their own touch on it. The collaborative creations will be featured at an opening Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. |
New Waveland House to be featured in "Tiny House Nation"
Former Waveland resident Pye Parson is rebuilding with the help of the popular TV show, Tiny House Nation. The house is still under construction as of Cleaver press time, but the show's producers say that it's a "600 square foot house built on stilts to prevent damage from flooding."
"Our challenge is to build the family a tiny storm-resistant house that not only protects them from the Gulf coast elements but also incorporates the single, large oak tree that still stands tall and proud on their lot."
The Cleaver will be posting more details as they become available, including the airing date of the episode! The Cleaver will also be featuring Pye's house in a future "At Home In the Bay" column!

Between the Highway and Home Blog Features Bay St. Louis
Blogger Andrew Kyle Saucier's thoughtful blog, "Between the Highway and Home" showcases this stateside explorer's writing and photography skills. In December, he wrote about his stay in Bay St. Louis, which he says "is the kind of place you come to get away from the hustle and bustle of everything, the kind of place where you come to relax. Sit back and enjoy it."
Check out Saucier's entry on Bay St. Louis here. We're betting you enjoy perusing other entries in this exceptional blog that's "part travelogue and part memoir."
