Coast Cuisine - September 2023
There’s a new restaurant in the Depot District! Check out The Blind Tiger’s latest additions, TBT Depot District Deli and TBT Butcher Shop. The deli offers a unique selection of sandwiches, including a delicious smash burger and lobster roll.  The butcher shop is due to open in early October and will offer high-quality meats and fresh seafood.

The TBT Butcher Shop and District Depot Deli are the embodiments of ideas and plans that owners Scott Sutherland and Thomas Genin have been developing for some time. The location in the Depot was always appealing to them, so when space became available, they went after it.

“The people are really happy to see something here. We always wanted to get over this way,” said Sutherland. “We’re excited about the diversity of food choices here, with pizza from Uncle Joe’s and the many choices of fine wines at Lagarde’s Fine Wine and Spirits.”

The Blind Tiger (TBT) Butcher Shop is preparing to open in the Depot District of Bay St. Louis within the next few weeks, and there is a great deal of excitement about it. Judging by early support of the TBT Depot District Deli, and enthusiasm from area business owners, TBT Butcher Shop is going to be an incredible addition to the Depot District.

The deli opened in early September. Its menu includes a variety of sandwiches, including a fresh-ground “Smash Burger,” shrimp, pulled pork, spiral cut hot ham and cheese, smoked tuna croissant, fried pickled brined chicken sandwich, lobster roll, and more.

“It’s got a little bit for everybody,” said Sutherland of the choices at the deli and the other restaurants in the area.

The butcher shop is scheduled to open in early October, and it will carry fresh quality cuts of steaks and fresh seafood.

“It gives people an incredible option for great seafood and great meat,” said Alan Lagarde, owner of Lagarde’s Fine Wine and Spirits. “It’ll be another great option for prime steaks, great seafood, duck breasts, scallops. Then the consumer will have a chance to walk over here to get a great bottle of wine to pair with their meal.”

The Depot District expansion brings The Blind Tiger operation to four restaurants and three butcher shops, including the flagship location on the beach in Bay St. Louis, which is referred to by the owners as “The Mothership.”

“It’s the place visitors come to feel like a local,” said Sutherland of the first location, which opened in May of 2013. This location has undergone two expansions, which include a patio and an upper deck.

There are two restaurant locations in Harrison County, one in Gulfport and one in Biloxi. The first butcher shop opened on East Beach Boulevard in Pass Christian in April 2021.

Plans are underway for a location in Fairhope, Alabama. That location is expected to open as soon as November or December.  Additionally, Artie Sutherland, Scott’s brother, owns the first TBT franchise restaurant in Starkville, and he’s building one in West Point. Artie is also looking to expand into Mathiston, Miss.

Check out The Blind Tiger in the Depot District for a unique meal and fresh meats and seafood (coming soon).
